I have worked with Shoebox LA since 2020 during the pandemic. They helped me set up my website, create and prepare my proposal documents to apply to artist residences and opportunities. Every year, I have participated in an online artist collaboration with artists all over the world. Over the past few months, the big reveal was to create an exhibition of our works in LA. With logistical issues a plenty, lost artworks, working within different time zones and such, we have created our book. I worked with a Los Angeles Artist, Eva Marie Amaya. We focused on meditation and poetry from french philosophy ( our original book which was lost in the post in Paris ) . 

The exhibit will begin 27 feb to 1 mar 2026, the StartUp Art Fair, Venice Beach CA

I was happily notified at the beginning of January that my work self portrait for black women migration “on reve" had been accepted and included in a book about themes of nature and migration. À Tonnerre, une artiste venue d’Oakland fait vibrer les âmes et les couleurs

Ce samedi, j’ai assisté au vernissage de l’exposition “Âmes, corps, couleurs” à l’espace Archipels, au cœur de Tonnerre. L’artiste américaine Odarley Morton y présente une série d’œuvres qui interpellent par leur sincérité, leur douceur, et leur force silencieuse.

Originaire d’Oakland, Odarley Morton a étudié l’art à San Francisco, cette ville que j’ai eu l’occasion de visiter et qui m’a marqué par son énergie culturelle, ses galeries ouvertes sur le monde, et son esprit libre. On retrouve dans son travail cette même intensité discrète : des portraits, des corps, des gestes, des couleurs qui ne cherchent pas à séduire mais à dire quelque chose de vrai.

Ce qui m’a frappé, c’est la manière dont ses œuvres semblent écouter autant qu’elles s’expriment. Elles invitent à ralentir, à regarder autrement, à ressentir sans bruit. Odarley Morton ne peint pas pour imposer une vision, mais pour ouvrir un espace de dialogue intérieur.

Nous avons échangé longuement. Elle parle avec calme, avec précision, avec une attention rare. Elle évoque son parcours, ses ateliers, son lien avec la France, et son envie de créer des ponts entre les cultures. Elle m’a confié que Tonnerre lui rappelle certains quartiers d’Oakland : une histoire forte, une beauté discrète, une envie de faire communauté.

L’espace Archipels, qui accueille cette exposition, joue ici son rôle d’écrin et de tremplin. Ce lieu engagé, ouvert aux artistes contemporains, offre à Odarley Morton un cadre à la hauteur de son travail : sobre, respectueux, vivant.

Je recommande vivement cette exposition. Non pas comme un événement à cocher dans un agenda, mais comme une rencontre à vivre. Une respiration. Une manière de se reconnecter à ce qui nous traverse, à ce qui nous relie.

Des visiteurs courageux et chaleureux ont franchi la porte de nos ateliers et galeries durant ce Week-End d'Artsites, malgré les averses et la fraîcheur. Merci à eux, merci aux organisateurs et participants. 

Pour Archipels, le parcours de cette année fut à nouveau une belle expérience dans les rencontres, et les créations d'Odarley Morton ont suscité un grand intérêt, de l'émotion et de l'intensité dans les échanges. 

L'exposition "Âmes, corps, couleurs" se prolonge jusqu'au 28 novembre.

They are presenting a group of my works from over the past 5 years, including Blaxit On reve ( a migrant story), my body holds secrets and raisin in lockdown( a group of study drawings during the pandemic).

A propos  de l'exposition d'Odarley Morton

Une ligne de basse sur un air punk, un tour de piste en 50'', une introspection dans la valse du corps, la douceur chaude du ton safran - la couleur de la méditation -, une enfance californienne : Odarley nous déroute loin d'un voyage conforme et lisse comme la toile vierge qui patiente sur le chevalet.

Elle voyage dans la géographie du monde et du corps, en défiant le temps, la lumière et notre humanité, celle qui rit et pleure en empathie, celle qui cherche au-delà du regard.

Le pinceau qu'elle tient est un fleuret moucheté qui va au coeur. Elle cherche notre empathie, nos résistances et la beauté qui la fait sourire sur le papier et le lin. Elle raconte les femmes debout, les corps blessés mais résilients, elle dit la diversité qui fait sens et honore ses origines.

Odarley fait, comme le judoka, des contraintes une force, une énergie créatrice en trouvant dans le confinement du temps libéré et une perspective nouvelle sur le monde. Dans la traversée des troubles physiques, elle ausculte les secrets du corps, par la danse dont elle joue sur le papier comme sur la scène. Odarley danse, rit, écoute la parole de l'autre, l'âme de l'autre. L'empathie, émotion si essentielle à notre vie en commun quoiqu'en disent certains, est au centre de sa créativité. L'émotion est ontologique à la création artistique, elle le sait, elle le fait, elle le peint.

Dans ses tableaux, Odarley parle de nous, de vous, de l'humain qui ouvre son coeur et son esprit, qui dit l'intime caché en soi, autour de soi.

A l'instar d' Ana Mendieta, Odarley Morton peut affirmer :« Mes travaux artistiques sont les veines d'irrigation du fluide universel. A travers elles montent la sève ancestrale, les croyances originelles, les accumulations primordiales, les pensées inconscientes qui animent le monde » (1)

Ladislas – pour Archipels

I was invited to take part in the fete de l'eau artist group exposition in Nogent Sur Seine in June 2025. A weekend celebration with music and a fantastic group of artists from the region (Champagne). To promote the show we have a storefront exposition that I participated in creating a work of water and stones ( this years theme) and will be on display for the summer. 

I shared On Reve with a new group of people and was excited to place my pieces in an outdoor garden using trees as my walls! it was so exciting to see the pieces in their full glory, pops of color surrounded by greens and yellows and sunlight shining through each piece to reveal all of the layers. 

The joy of each artwork was highlighted because of the space. I was happy to share my artwork at this event and hope the organiser's were  also happy to have a colorful stage for the musicians and an uplifting atmosphere that On Reve always seems to create.

I am in my 3rd cycle this year in collaboration with Shoebox LA and the wonderful artists I have been paired up with this year. The concept simple, every 24 hours over 2 weeks we respond to each other with a piece based on a theme.

This month I am continuing with more artists. It is a great opportunity to meet other artists and also keep my practice going as things get busy.

I am honoured to be part of a group exhibition for the month of May 2025 in the botanic garden of Marnay Sur Seine. My piece is based on a poem SEEDS AND GARDENS , by - R.H. Swaney

If words are seeds, 

let flowers grow 

from your mouth,

not weeds. 

If heart are gardens, 

plant those flowers

in the chest of the ones

who exist around you.

Instead of drawing words and images, I choose to play with the third request for the show, a weather- proof piece that will be outside for the entire month of May. I created many layers using natural dyes and watercolors. As the weather changes, wind, sun, rain and perhaps other surprises, my work will change and reveal hidden drawings using resist techniques. I am looking forward to seeing how this piece will change over the month.

These courses are available to all ages and art levels, whether you are a beginner or not my workshop is truly meant to offer anyone te chance to create for 3 hours in a space that is open to every idea. My plan for 2025… offer a workshop every month to learn a technique or just have a creative moment .

After being away from home for almost 6 months, I returned to Marnay Sur Seine to have a show in the Jardin Botanique. With all the rain in the month of September I set up everything I had worked on this past year in residence and in studio and presented On rêve.  I was honoured to share the opening with Sandra Hoffernan, a natural dyes and pigment artist from New Zealand.   

A mixed-media research and portrait exhibition that invites the viewer to examine how perception affects identity, part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary project that illustrates Blaxit, black American women expats migrating to Europe. These portraits on antique linen purchased at brocantes around Europe, are a celebration of personal stories from real women who have chosen to live in Europe. Using empathetic art and body mapping to share the history of each woman’s journey to self expression, my paintings are filled with their joy and inspiration. I hope everyone can see the beauty of each woman’s story and experience their emotions. The Opening was the 29 of September 2024 and closed the 13 of October for the final weekend of the gardens season. 

I spent the spring in the south of France and the beginning of summer in Portugal, with Prisma Artist Residency in Lisbon. On rêve tookf light in a well-lit studio space overlooking the rooftops of downtown Lisbon. The show was a wonderful opportunity to meet other artists, local and international and the Prisma residency's location made it possible to enjoy all of the sites, tastes and sounds of Lisbon. 

I shared this show with Ahmed Aboulanouar an artist from Morocco. Where we collaborated and exhibited our sculptures, textiles and mixed media pieces.
